Interim reports were sent home on Friday!! Reading groups will start this week. I will be sending home a reading log that will be sent back to school on the last school day of the month. Please listen to your child read at least four days a week. We are also starting spelling hw this week. Homework shouldn't take more than 20-25 mins a night. Thank you for your support at home. We are focusing on asking and answering questions about key details in a text. After I read the book, Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse we talked about the words, who, what, when, where, why, and how. Next, we made questions about the story using these words. Then we answered the questions by looking back in the text. Everyone agreed that they could tell someone about this book very easily and it was because we made up questions, answered them from the text, and then wrote down the answers. Reading groups will begin. On September 21. Please be sure to ask your child questions each night after they read to you. More information about reading expectations will come home on September 21. We have started our first theme. We will be learning more about nature over the next couple of weeks. Our 1st grade promise is: Hurt No Living Thing. First we discussed living and non-living things. Then we watched a Brain Pop Jr. video about rocks. We wrote about rocks and then we got to look close at rocks with magnifying glasses. We are also working very hard on counting and writing numbers from 1-120. Almost everyone needs practice with numbers 100-120. Count in the car or at a family picnic this weekend!! Enjoy the 3 day weekend. We have started BUILD math. Here are some pictures of us practicing our goal of counting and writing to 120! The first week went by so fast! We have been getting to know each other, building our reading stamina, and counting to 120!! I can't wait to start posting pics of everyone, but I'm waiting for all the office paper work to be returned so I have permission to post faces!! Here are a few pictures of things we have been working on!! Thanks for visiting our classroom blog. I will be posting weekly!!😊 I'll be using Remind this year. Remind is a messaging app that allows me to send reminders to parents by text. All you have to do is text @aenge to 81010. I will be sending more information about Remind on the first day of school. You will find information about Remind in my classroom handbook and I am also sending a print-off from the website. I hope you will subscribe to my reminder texts!!
